2023 Palm Branches Burned to Prepare Ashes for 2024 Ash Wednesday Service

Last Week

  • Thank you to Pastor Joy Gonnerman for presiding over worship and tackling a tough Gospel text! The Faith + Fellowship group grappled with that text and your sermon helped to address some of the questions which arose in that discussion!

  • Thank you to Jordan Kopperud for reading Scripture, Gail Kass for accompanying us, Kari Kopperud for serving communion, Tim Kass for ushering, Peg McAllister for baking the bread for communion, and Angela Catton for live streaming the service to Facebook.

  • We honored Pastor Gonnerman for Pastor Appreciation Month with a card and gift card to Barnes and Noble.

This Week

  • Pastor David Halaas will be back in the Chapel with us! We will honor him for Pastor Appreciation month!

  • We are in need a reader and communion server on Sunday. Contact Kay Michaelson if you could help in worship with either of these tasks!

  • A reminder: Worship begins at 11:15 AM in the PUCC Chapel!

Faith + Fellowship meets at 10:15 in Room 103. Thank you to June Ferguson for providing treats last week!

We had a good discussion on a difficult Gospel text last week! It really helped to wrestle with that text prior to worship and then to hear Pastor Joy's comments on the text! Come get a preview of the Gospel text for Sunday with your fellow Faith+ Fellowship-ers! Doing so really enhances the message given during worship!

We are in need of someone to provide treats this coming Sunday. Please contact Kay if you can assist with this.

Scripture Readers and Communion Servers are needed for upcoming services! Please take a look at your schedules and stop by the sign up table outside the Chapel to sign up for whichever task you feel comfortable with!

Often, Living Faith gives cards to thank the many who have blessed us these past months. Peg McAllister uses her love of stamping to create beautiful cards (which are works of art!) and she gifts these cards to Living Faith to use as a part of our expression of thanks.

Thank you, Peg, for your generosity and for the thought and care you put into the cards requested! Your cards make any thanks and gift extra special to the recipient!

Our Ashes and S'mores Event!

We gathered at the Municipal Park on a beautiful Sunday evening to enjoy fellowship together and burn our 2023 Palm Sunday palm branches to make ashes for our 2024 Ash Wednesday service!

The ashes were cut, lit in the fire pit, and burned very quickly! Next, the ashes were pressed through a sieve to created the fine particles which will be used on Ash Wednesday. A small amount of olive oil will be added to the ashes to make them the consistency needed to be administered to one's forehead.

Following the burning of the palms, we enjoyed making and eating s'mores, playing with the dogs in attendance (!), and visiting with one another! Thank you to Dell Ferguson who was our fire master! Thank you as well to June Ferguson, Mark and Cheryl Juhl, and Angela Catton for providing s'more fixings, hot apple cider and tools for making s'mores!
