Living Faith Weekly News (Week of October 11, 2026)
Living Faith celebrated all who worship at Living Faith on Belonging Sunday. We also welcomed new members: Philip, Karen, Clara, Sybil, and Emmett Kass and Sue Moller! Pastor Paige prayed a blessing over our new members and we all affirmed our baptism together. Sponsors for the Kass family are the Rathke family and Gail Kass is the sponsor for Sue Moller.
Thank you to Pastor Paige for presiding over worship, Pixie Balt for accompanying us on the piano (listen to her dynamic prelude on our Facebook page!), Nathan Summerside for reading scripture, Kim Lang for assisting with Holy Communion, Tim Kass for ushering and running the sound board, Jenni Mack for live streaming our service, and John and Peg McAllister for baking the bread and preparing the elements for Holy Communion.
Thank you also to those who helped after worship: Sharon Utesch, Brian and Kay Michaelson, Tim and Gail Kass and Kay Allen.
Sunday, October 18th
21st Sunday after Pentecost
Living Faith will join with the Presbyterian United Church of Christ to worship together at Hillview Recreation Area (25601 C60) in rural Hinton. Entering the park, drive up the hill where you will see the Dennis L. Sohl Center for Outdoor Learning on your left at the top of the hill and this is where worship will take place at 10:00 AM. Pastor Kristy May will preach and Pastor Paige Quanbeck will preside over Holy Communion. The PUCC praise brand, Grace Notes, will provide music for worship. The service will be live-streamed provided good internet connections.
A potluck lunch will follow worship featuring a taco bar, side dishes and desserts. Please bring your own table service. Water, coffee, and juice will be provided.
Because of the 10:00 Hillview worship on Sunday, there will be no Bible Study. Bible Study will resume at 9:30 AM in Room 105 on October 25.
10:00 Fellowship time will resume on Sunday, October 25 in the Fellowship Hall of the PUCC. Kari Kopperud will be serving treats on that day!
Confirmation Classes will meet Wednesday, October 14th, at 7:00 PM in Room 105. Last week, Confirmation students Dakota Utesch, Nate and Owen Rathke, Clara Kass, Jess Kopperud, Kenzie McLaughlin, and Loen Thomas crafted 5 tie blankets for delivery to the SAFE Place here in Le Mars. Thank you to Kari Kopperud and Kay Michaelson for assisting the students with this project!
October Mission Project - College Care Package
During the month of October, Living Faith is gathering items for a care package to be sent to Kortney Kopperud who is a freshman at the University of Iowa. Here is a sample shopping list you can use to purchase a few items and drop off to the box on the Living Faith table in the narthex of the PUCC. You may also want to write a note of encouragement to Kortney! The deadline for collecting items is Sunday, October 27.
Please turn in your Mission Statement and Core Values feedback forms to any council member or Pastor Paige by Sunday, October 18! Email bkmich4@gmail.com if you need to have a form emailed to you!
Reformation Day and Confirmation Day will be celebrated on Sunday, October 27 during our 11:00 AM worship service! Nathan Rathke and Dakota Utesch will be confirmed in their faith on that day! Wear red!
Harvest Worship and Meal - Sunday, November 8th
Living Faith will partner with the PUCC for their annual Harvest Worship and Meal on Sunday, November 8th. Worship will begin at 10:00 AM and the Harvest Meal will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the PUCC. Soon there will be a sign up sheet for this meal on the PUCC table in the narthex so be watching for that. There will be a freewill offering for the meal.
The Church Council will meet on Tuesday, October 20 at 6:00 PM in Room 105.
ELCA Mission Leadership Training
Pastor Paige has returned from the ELCA Mission Leadership Training in Chicago. She was nominated for attendance to this training by DEM of the Western Iowa Synod, Rev. Melissa Pickering. Pictured below is the group that attended.
